Divergent by Veronica Roth
I'll save the cover for the end...mix it up a bit.
Synopsis (in one sentence) Dystopian society broken into factions based on character traits, main character (Tris) chooses a faction other than the one in which she was raised, which is out of the norm and discovers a brewing conspiracy.
Okay, that synopsis gives this book no justice whatsoever -but that's what you get for one (questionable) sentence. The bottom line is, while it starts off somewhat slow, once it gets moving, it doesn't stop. Divergent is a fast, easy read that is both exciting, intriguing and disturbing in one fell swoop. You won't get through the book without wondering which faction you would have put yourself in, which is a sign of great writing. Not only that, but the construct of the society will have you wondering a. could that actually work? -it sounds pretty feasible and b. isn't that kind of what Hitler was trying to do?
Anyway, good stuff. Worth a read for sure! If I had little stars, I'd give it 4.5 out of 5.
Oh, by the way, Divergent is currently #18 on Amazon/Teen/Sci-fi
